Long Live the Neodomainers: The Domain Game, Good or Bad

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

David Kesmodel’s to be released book The Domain Game, irrespective of how it is received, will undoubtedly catapult the industry into a new era: that of the neodomainers, the super crunchers. To analyze the impact of the book on the industry, let’s look at stylized exchange scenarios featuring a domainer as intermediary (an intermediary in that he or she acquires from the seller and then hopes to resell to the buyer)… More…

SIP Revolution, Massively Delayed - But There’s Hope

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The SIP Center asked for an article which I finally wrote the weekend before last. My article was actually rather negative, but they published it anyway. Now I’m feeling a little guilty as there is an optimistic note I could have used as my conclusion. So let me try again… First let me summarize my problem. When SIP emerged in 1996, it’s support for direct connections from one user to another was extremely compelling. This was the VoIP protocol which would lead to a complete revolution in communications… More…

E-commerce companies are taking notice and have started sending termination notices […]

Dot Travel Still Isn’t Dead Yet

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I’ve writen several blog entries about the continued downward swirling motion of Tralliance, the company that runs the registry for .TRAVEL. In this month’s installment, as told in their quarterly 10-Q SEC filing, they flirt with bankruptcy but may well end up more stable than before. One of the more eye-catching paragraphs says… More…

Is American Airlines more boneheaded than United?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

In the race to provide the worst possible customer service, American Airlines has announced a policy that is so boneheaded they make United Airlines look absolutely mediocre. Back in February, United announced that they would start charging passengers $50 to check a second bag. I rarely check any luggage when I’m on business, but if I’m travelling with family then sometimes my wife will check two bags. Now American has said that starting next month they’ll start charging passengers $15 to check even the first bag. What moron came up with this idea? It’s bad enough that you have to… READ MORE
